6 Little Known Things about the Pacific Northwest

They never tell you theses secrets. You have to have lived here at least five years, then the scroll is passed on to you.

Don't mix Acids and Bases

In the past I have tried to bring different groups of friends together. I had one group of work friends that were educated and a tiny bit, well, just different from the other group. The other group were partiers, pure and simple. When I attempted to merge the two at a local bar, the result was instant chaos.

The partiers thought the work group was stuck up, and the work group thought the partiers were neanderthals. Even though I was liked by both groups, that was not enough to showcases the similar things that I saw in those groups.

Abou5-6 years after that incident, I found myself married, and living the snotty high life in Seattle.

I was a metropolitan now, people.

I again found myself with two groups of friends. One from Boston, again some rowdy folks, but damn great guys. The other group, equally good peeps, were highly educated technology folk, working for telecoms and internet  start-ups etc.

When I attempted a merging of the two again chaos resulted, but at least a slightly more mature repulsion was the result. the two groups just did not party the same way. The tech guys all wanted to sit around and talk, and the Boston guys wanted to party, and if possible see boobs. (doesn't every guy feel this way? regardless of education or social standing?)

I guess what I'm saying (tl;dr) is that if you have two different groups of people that like you, its not gonna be an easy to get them to like each other.

Visiting Relativity

Portland, the town Seattle wanted to be

I know that many people dont get enough sleep, but man, do I need some asap. I am running on the fourth night in a row that I havent gotten to bed before 11:30, then gotten up again at 6 and ran around like a damn fool looking for clothing. I just cannot wait until things calm down in my household.

The worst part is I like having my east coast peeps around. I also like that my wife has some extracurricular stuff going on.

Heck, I even like the thought of my daughter getting potty trained, and my parents selling their house in Spokane and moving to the emerald city permenently.

Its just when all of it together, plus a pile of birthdays all come together in the same month, and I dont get any sleep.

THEN, then people, this robot cant think straight. I also have a devil of a time getting away to draw. I keep thinking I can just do some art when all quiets down, but quiets down just isnt seeming to happen here.  I find myself making sophies choices over whether to relax with a friend or hole up in a room while my kid pounds on the door.
----ok rant over, enjoy todays installment. Don't worry, I will find some downtime to draw, and I got scripts for the rest of this week.

Going to grandmas

This was the first morning that we got to take my two year old
over to Grandma and grampas new apartment. The wife and I were all concerned about it, but shockingly, everything went really well. Kid woke up, watched some TV, while wife dressed/showered etc, and I got her all clothed up and readied her daybag for the grandma house.

The mom/dad are living in a pretty posh place, rather than the place we are still at
until the lease is up. Looking forward to that.

Pros of getting up a bit earlier? Well coffee making becomes the MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER. Also you have time to do stuf, that you normally do not. Like clothe yourself properly, comb your hair, drink a cup of coffee. watch a little tv news.

Plus I really like the whole morning with the kid thing. Getting her all dressed up amkes me feel really adult for some reason, like this is how its supposed to be. Guess I have been as spoiled as the little girl has been so far.
Well, kiddo. Its time to start getting used to getting up earlier than you want to. You should be over this in about 62 years, when you retire.
